LAW ENFORCEMENT My Commitment to “The Best in the Nation” "The field of Law Enforcement attracts and encourages employees who are among the best in the nation. As these Officers provide safety for the community, they are repeatedly exposed to serious traumas, crisis situations, confrontations, and uncertainty. This results in repeated incidences of fight or flight, quick actions, and extensive physical, mental, and emotional challenges. Police Officers respond to these challenges, never shirking their duties, always putting others before themselves. They give 100% of themselves over and over again. They go, go, do, do, more, more, seldom taking the time to recognize the long term impact. What happens to the health of these Officers? Although job productivity is high, the long-term impact to the body is intense. Internal factors such as stress, anxiety, and repeated over-stimulation of endorphins and adrenaline, along with external factors such as injury, infections, and weather take their toll. All too often, Officers retire or end their careers due to injury or illness, on or off duty, that affected their total health. Even at the end of a successful career, the body that was healthy in the beginning, is worn with “battle scars.” Although external strength is highly emphasized during the Officer’s career, rarely is a mechanism in place that provides for ongoing good health and well-being. I am honored to be able to provide an excellent opportunity for these fine professionals to regain the balance, harmony, and good health that they so greatly deserve.” -Deborah Turner, L. Ac. When Debbie Turner approached Police Chief Ken Weldon with the idea of bringing the field of acupuncture to the field of law enforcement, the idea of Code 4 Acupuncture was born. Knowing the highs and lows of law enforcement from first hand experience, Debbie felt that acupuncture treatments could prove to be extremely valuable to many Law Enforcement employees and their families. Chief Weldon, being a visionary responsible for the implementation of many innovative programs within the City of El Monte, once again demonstrated his foresight. Believing that acupuncture might help members of the Police Department, he made sure that the project was off to a good start. His decision was supported by City Officials. Debbie gave up her practice in Santa Monica to solely treat the men and women in Law Enforcement and city employees. The project was immensely successful. Many Officers sought treatment from Debbie because they knew her from earlier days in patrol. They trusted her and her treatments because they knew "she had been there." Others, including civilian employees and family members also sought help from acupuncture because of the law enforcement connection. The symptoms and syndromes were numerous. Relief from pain, both acute and chronic, was a common reason for treatment. Others sought help with stress reduction, goal focusing, and general improvement in overall health and well-being. More severe conditions were treated such as facial paralysis, diabetes, neuropathy, hypertension, memory loss, and alcoholism were also presented. Trauma treatments were given to Officers involved in extremely intense situations, such as shootings and pursuits. Issues such as over-thinking, chronic worry, frustration, and lack of motivation were also addressed. Now, the project has proven to be a positive experience for so many, has expanded. The limitations of treating only Law Enforcement from only one city has been eliminated. Now, any one who feels that they deserve the best in acupuncture treatments, and who is willing to accept the possibilities of good health, is welcome to experience the "treat" of acupuncture treatments. Having spent 25 years as an Officer for the El Monte Police Department, I have a tremendous understanding and empathy for the men and women in Law Enforcement. My personal pledge is to includemy skills as an acupuncturist to Law Enforcement and Community Professionals and their families." -Deborah Turner, L. Ac. |
